Winery Review: "Blackberry and cola aromas are cool and collected. The palate has weight and texture to accompany berry, mint, herb and peppery flavors. Turns more herbal and roasted as it unwinds. Pepper and spice lead the finish" Vintage Cellar wine notes
My Review: This syrah was without a doubt the biggest and boldest wine out of the bunch and I found it a bit much for my novice taste buds. It had an extremely bitter taste accompanied by a sharp bite, possibly a result of the pepper flavor. One of the Vintage Cellar employees told me it was matured in oak barrels and from a flavor point-of-view that makes sense because I'm not a huge fan of whiskey either, guess I prefer my alcohol to stay away from wood storage. Tannins and I aren't very friendly right now but I hope we can work on that rough start. Probably my least favor of this weeks Vintage Five but it offered some unique flavors without a doubt.
I sampled the wine without food.
